I'd heard about Gleneagles from friends whose parents are weekend golfers, and international students at my university who had some experience of the world's best hotels. I decided 2024 was the year I'd visit after Gleneagles was placed 32nd on the "World's 50 Best Hotels" list, the only Scottish property to be mentioned.

With Woods marking the sportswear company’s “significant entry” into golf, the partnership – and its impact – was “seismic,” explained Ben Peppi, sports commercial expert at JMW Solicitors. “For a long time post-Michael Jordan’s retirement, pre-Cristiano Ronaldo, Tiger Woods was Nike,” Peppi told CNN Sport. He transcends his sport – he wasn’t just a golf ambassador, he was a Nike icon.”As Woods became synonymous with golf, Nike became synonymous with Woods. 1 Scottie Scheffler was left in tears after suffering a defeat of historic proportions at the Ryder Cup on Saturday. On paper, Scheffler and Koepka looked a pairing more than capable of finally securing a first win for US captain Zach Johnson. Both major champions, Koepka boasting five, the experienced Americans were facing a pair without a major crown between them and in Aberg, a 23-year-old Ryder Cup rookie who turned pro less than 100 days ago. It eclipses the previous 18-hole Ryder Cup winning margin record of 8&7, both inflicted by Americans in singles matches; Tom Kite over Howard Clark in 1989, and Fred Couples over Ian Woosnam in 1997. “Yesterday was an amazing day and we wanted to enjoy it because it’s not very often you go out on a full day in a Ryder Cup and don’t lose a full point,” McIlroy told reporters.

Anson Dorrance knew he was a pioneer during his eight years as head coach of the US Women’s National Team (USWNT). Any understanding of how and why the USWNT is women’s soccer’s dominant force, a four-time Women’s World Cup winner and favorite to win the next edition currently taking place in Australia and New Zealand, must start with Dorrance, the groundbreaker and the bricklayer. Five years later, the first Women’s World Cup was held in China – not that it was initially labelled a World Cup as world governing body FIFA worried it might not be a success. A third-placed finish followed at the 1995 Women’s World Cup, and then came the Atlanta Olympics a year later. CNN —Two record-breakers, a pair of hole-in-ones, and a sea of low scores: Los Angeles Country Club served up a Hollywood blockbuster with a thrilling first round at the US Open on Thursday. The pair of hole-in-one’s highlighted a day of widespread low scoring, as birdies rained down around the North Course. Thursday’s 71.34 scoring average marked the lowest ever recorded in a first round at the US Open, beating the previous low of 72.29 at the 1993 tournament. Fowler’s 10 birdies marked the most ever recorded in a US Open round. “I joked a bit earlier, I think the USGA will be a bit frustrated that the number was that low today,” Scheffler told reporters.
